being broke is never trending
People love to get on social media and flex because it’s popular. People want what they don’t have and a lot of us aren’t millionaires, me included. The idea of faking it until you make it is still heavily practiced in today’s society.
We are literally getting squeezed out of every penny with the current inflation this is happening nationwide yet people are “flexing for the gram” to show off how they have 30 $10 hand sanitizers.
Overconsumption has become a trend in society with creators on TikTok buying a bunch of things they don’t necessarily need. I am not here to judge that is not the point of this video because honestly I enjoy those videos they are quite calming but I am fully aware that is it completely unnecessary.
Moneybagg Yo recently came under heavy criticism for withdrawing all of his money from the bank for a music video but many thought it was too flex. A lot of bank workers were upset because they had to count all of that money twice making them go into overdraft. It kind of comes off as selfish to the working class but the sad truth of it all is that is your job to count other people’s money, which comes off rude to say (I’m aware).
Why is speaking the truth rude? Especially if it is a fact. Was Moneybagg Yo wrong for withdrawing his money from his bank account? No. He was in his right to do so. It is his money and whether he returned it to the bank or not. Counting out his money is the job of the bank employee.
The reason (in my opinion) that this was frowned upon it caused an inconvenience to the bank employees, who probably wanted to go home after a long day and now had to stay and do overtime for a job that probably doesn’t fully appreciate them.
It seems as if people who have wealth have power, especially over the majority of us who do not possess that type of wealth. It is a fact the wealthy abuse their power because they feel like they can. When you have that type of wealth you can get away with almost anything.
Look at former president Donald Trump, he would have never gotten away with most of the things that he has gotten away with if it was not for his wealth. It is one of the main reasons for his popularity.
There is this perception that worth is better because you have more options, you can buy more things, foods taste better with money, and the list goes on and on. Meanwhile, there are literally people who cannot afford to live because the housing situation has become ridiculously expensive, and the minimum wage is not enough to combat that rising cost of living.
So the reason being broke is never trending nor will it ever truly trend is because people to love to find a way to escape the harsh realities of their daily situation even if it’s to live through the eyes of someone else life.
