Deadline EXCLUSIVE: An A Different World sequel series chronicling Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter’s time at Hillman College, is in early development at Netflix, sources tell Deadline. The single-cam, half-hour comedy comes from writer/executive producer Felicia Pride (Bel-Air, Grey’s Anatomy) and executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood and Reggie Bythewood.

This is exciting to me. I always loved “ A Different World” I hope that it is a good sequel because every sequel is not always a hit. Sometimes nothing best the classic. Bel-Air was the exception because it is a dramatic retelling and it is it’s own story.

I am hoping for the same thing as well with A Different World. It is resonate if it is it’s own story.

Felicia Pride is a TV writer / producer and an award-winning filmmaker. She wrote on "Queen Sugar," "Grey's Anatomy," and most recently served as a writer / supervising producer on "Bel-Air." She's developing shows with Amazon, Netflix, and FX. In film, she's the writer and executive producer of "Really Love", which debuted on Netflix and became a Top Ten Movie on the platform. And she's sold features to Universal, Sony, and AGC Studios.
